Enter Summer. And other random stuff.

May 31, 2011

And all of a sudden it was summer.

I don’t remember what happened in May.  Or April.  All I know is that work was crazy and then it was time for vacation.

We just came back from Yellowstone National Park last week and experienced three out of four seasons in five days.  Three inches of snow, sleet, hail, rain, wind, and beautiful fall/spring sunshine.  More on that later, but what’s important to note about our trip is that Genghis was so distracted by the wildlife that he forgot about his bulldozah for at least a few hours a day.  When we arrived back home, we melted in the 90 degree heat with high humidity.

I think this is how we’ll be spending many of our evenings and weekends this summer:

I had some random pictures on my camera that helped me remember how we passed the time the last few months.  We spent a weekend in May at the Mackie’s compound in the Hill Country and attended Babe and Babe’s wedding.  This is them, not a picture of some models out of a JCrew catalog.

The Mackie Compound is what I would describe as Hill Country Mod.  And super kid friendly if you’re a laid-back (or exhausted) parent.  Genghis loved playing with over-sized bulldozahs in the gravel, running through the tall grass in the hills, plucking blackberries from the Mackie’s garden, and giving kisses to sweet Lucy.

Might I also add that we rolled up to the wedding in this!

Yes, folks.  That is an exact replica of National Lampoons family truckster, complete with Aunt Etta, courtesy of Mackie’s neighbor.  We felt like celebrities cruising around in that thing.  Of course, only those 30 and over gave us the thumbs up.  The younger generation just thought we were terribly out-dated with our exterior wood paneling.

“Now I owe it to myself to tell you, Mr. Griswold, that if you are thinking of taking the tribe cross country, this is your automobile.  The Wagon Queen Family Truckster.  You think you hate it now, but wait til you drive it!”

So nice if you to include a picture of me and my dad at the end. 😉
